Privacy policy
Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 13, 2026
StoryBookDaddy is operated by DocTalk LLC, the organization responsible for the personal information described in this policy. This policy covers our storefront at storybookdaddy.com, The Little Lantern League family portal, and related customer services. Our books and learning experiences are designed for children; purchases, accounts, and customer communications are managed by adults.
Information we handle
- Adult customer information: your name, email, phone number where provided, billing and shipping addresses, account details, preferences, and communications with us.
- Orders and access: purchased items, payment status, delivery information, returns, refunds, invitations, and the access rights associated with a purchase or institutional license. Payment providers process payment credentials; please never send full payment-card details to support.
- Family profiles: a display name or nickname, broad age band, chosen avatar, household association, and profile settings. Use a nickname rather than a child's legal name. Where the optional custom-photo feature is available, an adult-uploaded profile image is also stored. These records can be personal information even without a child's email or full name.
- School access: authorized adult staff details, organization membership, classroom access settings, and license records needed to deliver the school's service.
- Technical information: browser, device, network and connection information, session identifiers, security events, and interactions necessary to operate and protect the service. Hosting and embedded-content providers may also receive technical information when their services load.
- Optional measurement and communications: adult marketing preferences and, where enabled and consented to, limited adult portal usage events. Support messages and profile details are not appropriate marketing analytics inputs.
We receive information from you, authorized account administrators, service providers that fulfill or process your transactions, and your browser when you use the service. Please do not submit children's addresses, contact details, precise birth dates, health information, or other unnecessary identifying information in forms or support messages.
Why we use information
We use information to process orders and deliveries; provide accounts and purchased content; maintain household and school permissions; respond to support and privacy requests; manage refunds; protect accounts; prevent fraud; maintain required business records; and send essential service notices. We use adult contact information for promotional messages only as permitted by law and your preferences. Declining marketing does not prevent a purchase or necessary order communications.
Where EU or UK data protection law applies, we rely on contract necessity for requested services, legal obligations for required records, consent where required for optional activities, and appropriately balanced legitimate interests for activities such as security and support. A legal basis for adult data does not replace separate requirements for children's data.
Children and parent control
Children do not need independent purchasing accounts or marketing subscriptions. Parents and guardians manage family access. Please select a non-identifying avatar and nickname where possible. Optional images are not needed to purchase books or use the standard profile option.
Family-profile information is used to provide and manage the family experience. It is not intended for public profiles or marketing to children. We do not authorize the use of child-profile information for targeted advertising, its sale, or its use to train general-purpose AI models. Necessary service providers may process it to host, secure, or deliver the service as described below.
Where children's privacy law requires direct parental notice or verifiable parental consent, that process must occur before the relevant collection or use. This policy, an adult checkbox, or a purchase alone does not substitute for any legally required verification. Participation will not be conditioned on providing more information than is reasonably necessary.
A parent or guardian may contact Inquiry@storybookdaddy.com to request review, correction, deletion, or an end to further collection or use of their child's information. We will verify authority proportionately before disclosing or changing records. If information is necessary for a particular feature, stopping its use may prevent that feature from working; it does not remove rights relating to purchased physical goods. If you believe a child submitted information without appropriate authorization, contact us so we can investigate and remove it where required.
For school-managed access, contact the school or us. We coordinate with the authorized school contact where the school controls the relevant records. School authorization is not blanket permission for commercial use of children's information.
Providers and disclosures
We use providers to operate the service, including Shopify for the storefront and commerce, Supabase for portal accounts and data storage, Vercel for portal hosting, GoHighLevel for adult customer communications and relationship management, and Vimeo and Heyzine for embedded videos and digital books. Payment, email, and delivery providers receive information necessary for their functions. We may disclose information to professional advisers, authorities where legally required, or a successor in a lawful business transfer, with applicable protections.
Embedded providers may receive device or connection information directly from your browser. Their own privacy notices explain processing for which they independently determine the purpose. Shopify may also process information for its own purposes as explained in the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy. External social-media services are governed by their own notices when you choose to visit or use them.
For questions about any provider's handling of children's information through our service, contact StoryBookDaddy using the details below. [BEFORE PUBLICATION: COMPLETE THE VERIFIED LIST OF ALL OPERATORS THAT COLLECT OR MAINTAIN CHILDREN'S INFORMATION, INCLUDING ACTIVE EMBEDS AND HOSTING/EMAIL PROVIDERS; CONFIRM STORYBOOKDADDY CAN ANSWER PARENT INQUIRIES FOR THEM.]
Cookies, local storage, and advertising choices
Essential cookies and similar storage support the cart, sign-in, security, access controls, and saved preferences. Game or learning settings may also be saved on your device; clearing browser storage may remove them. Optional analytics and marketing technologies, where enabled, are subject to the choices and consent required in your region. Browser settings can restrict cookies, although some functions may stop working.
The portal's optional product analytics is designed for consenting adults and excludes child and classroom modes. This is separate from storefront tracking and embedded providers. [BEFORE PUBLICATION: INSERT THE VERIFIED STOREFRONT COOKIE/PIXEL INVENTORY, CONSENT-CONTROL LOCATION, SALE/SHARING STATUS, AND APPLICABLE OPT-OUT/GLOBAL PRIVACY CONTROL HANDLING.]
You may unsubscribe from promotional email using its unsubscribe link or contact us. If you separately opt into promotional SMS, you may reply STOP to opt out. Service messages may continue where needed to complete orders, protect accounts, or meet legal requirements.
Retention and security
We keep information only for a defined business or legal purpose. Adult transaction records may need to be retained for accounting, tax, fraud prevention, or dispute handling after an account closes. We restrict access and use safeguards appropriate to the information, but no online service can promise absolute security.
Children's profile data and optional images are retained to provide the profile and must be removed when that purpose ends, subject only to a specific lawful retention requirement. [BEFORE PUBLICATION: INSERT THE APPROVED CHILD-DATA RETENTION SCHEDULE, INACTIVITY TRIGGER, DELETION COMPLETION PERIOD, AND BACKUP EXPIRY.] Technical logs, support records, adult account records, and optional analytics follow [APPROVED RETENTION SCHEDULE OR LINK]. We explain any necessary retention exception when responding to a deletion request. Information retained solely in backups remains protected and is removed through the applicable backup lifecycle.
Your rights and requests
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a portable copy of personal information; restrict or object to certain processing; withdraw consent; and opt out of certain advertising, sale, or sharing. We will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising a right. Withdrawing consent does not invalidate prior lawful processing.
Contact Inquiry@storybookdaddy.com with the subject “Privacy request,” or use the adult portal Account controls where available. The self-service adult export does not include every household or school record; request any additional information you are entitled to through support. We may need proportionate identity or authority verification. Authorized agents may submit requests where permitted by law. We respond within applicable legal deadlines and explain any lawful extension or refusal. Where an appeal right applies, reply to our decision requesting an appeal. You may also complain to the relevant privacy regulator.
International processing
Our providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where a transfer mechanism is required, the relevant safeguards must be in place, such as applicable standard contractual clauses or another lawful mechanism. Contact us for information about safeguards relevant to your data. Using the website does not by itself waive transfer protections.
Future game and mentor features
Lantern Village and interactive mentor features may have separate launch dates. Before enabling a feature that changes what information is collected or disclosed, we will explain those practices and obtain any required consent. This policy does not authorize undisclosed recording of children's voices, external AI processing, or indefinite retention of conversations.
Changes and contact
We will update the effective date when this policy changes and provide additional notice or request fresh consent when required. Materially different uses of previously collected information will follow applicable notice and consent requirements.
